Venduehuis The Hague, 210 years

In May 1811, now 210 years ago, 69 notaries from The Hague met to draw up new rules for the auctioning of movable and immovable property. This was one of the requirements which Napoleon Bonaparte imposed on the Kingdom of Holland when he incorporated the country into the French empire. The meeting which led to the establishment of the Venduehuis der Notarissen in The Hague, became an almost pan-European event: French legislation applied to Dutch auctioneering and all of this in a chic, the Hague establishment that bore the name "The Parliament of England".

Law Firm Dentons sells the Boekel Collection

Following up on our successful Post-War & Contemporary Auction from October, we are offering in our online only auction ‘Modern & Contemporary Art, from 21 to 31 January 2021, the second part of the art collection of law firm Boekel De Nerée. Large- scale paintings from Elizabeth de Vaal, Rob Verf, Jan van der Pol, and John Loker together with small- scale works by Jan Smejkal, Dave Meijer, Gabriëlle van de Laak and Maarten Ploeg to name just a few, indicate the spectrum of this collection. Also included are prints by amongst others Carel Visser, Bas Meerman and Armando as well as 3-dimensional objects van Viktor IV and Jan van der Veer.

At the fashion exhibition that can be visited the whole weekend (at a safe distance from each other) in the Venduehuis, you’ll come across designs from various well-known and less well-known fashion designers such as Peter George d’Angelino Tap, Michelangelo Winklaar, Frank Govers and Yamuna Forzani. Part of the clothing comes from the Art Museum The Hague.

White-glove sale

We are extremely pleased to inform you about the success of our online auction ‘Charge! Cavalry Sabre Sale. International sabres in Dutch service 1807-1840’ on June 22nd. All 553 sabres, 33 lances, and 52 wooden army chests were sold. Some of these historical weapons were in service during the Battle of Waterloo on June 18th ,1815. In technical terms, we call this a ‘white-glove sale’. We would like to thank all those who contributed to this fantastic result.
