The Girl with a Pearl Earring back home!

The Girl with a Pearl Earring back home!

The Mauritshuis celebrates its 200th anniversary this year and to commemorate the occasion, the museum created a series of videos to present its most beloved artworks to the international press.

Of course, the Girl with a Pearl Earring by Johannes Vermeer (1632-1675) had to be front and centre during one of these videos! This beautiful painting went under the hammer at Venduehuis The Hague in 1881. As an important part of the history of the Girl with a Pearl Earring, Venduehuis The Hague of course had to make an appearance in the video! Recently,  we were able to briefly welcome “our girl” back home, in the auction room where the painting may have been sold so many years ago.

Watch the video below and discover more about this iconic auction and how the painting found its way to the Mauritshuis!
