From the collection of Asit Kumar Haldar (1890-1964), a remarkable selection of Indian art will come under the hammer on Wednesday 27 May. The collection includes a large number of works by Haldar himself - an eminent representative of the Bengal School and a nephew and close associate of Nobel Prize laureate Rabindranath Tagore - and is complemented by drawings by his contemporaries and other important artists of the same movement, such as Abanindranath Tagore (1871-1951) and Nandalal Bose (1882-1966).
This auction offers a unique opportunity to acquire outstanding works by key figures of the Bengal Renaissance. From sketch-like drawings to fully realised watercolours and books containing Haldar’s own notes, there is much to discover in this rich collection.
